Hours: 15-19; flexible hours, M-F

Overview

Work in UW Libraries Special Collections with Pacific Northwest Curator and other staff to describe and preserve collections related to research with indigenous communities. Collections are in varied analog, magnetic, and digital formats, and require varying amounts of physical and conceptual organization, description, and preservation preparation.

Duties

  • Arrange and describe collections and prepare inventories according to library and archival descriptive and metadata standards
  • Evaluate collections for preservation concerns and perform basic preservation and collection re-housing; consult with Moving Image & Sound Recording Archivist and Media Preservation Librarian to flag and prepare items for preservation and reformatting.
  • Contribute to collection records for each collection to be processed. Work with curators and libraries staff required for collaborative work based on collection content.
  • Keep projects statistics and provide weekly updates.
  • Communicate appropriately, effectively and positively.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong command of English grammar and copy-editing skills.
  • Basic skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • Interest in and ability to work independently.
  • Professional attitude, strong attention to detail, and ability to stay self-motivated and complete all tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Eagerness to learn new software and data management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience researching or working with history collections.
  • Experience handling multi-format archival collections.
  • Experience using collaborative project management tools.

Additional Details

Training provided in processing, describing, and other work with collections and software. Letter and resume/CV should explain experience researching or working with museum, library, or historical collections or equivalent
