Track Due Dates, Renew Materials, & Update Information

To view your loans, track due dates, and renew materials, log in to Your Library Account using your UW NetID. Check Your Library Account regularly; you are responsible for all items checked out to you. Most items owned by the UW Libraries can be renewed indefinitely unless another user requests the item(s) or your account expires.

Library Card

Your Husky Card is all you need to check out items from any UW Library.

For students enrolled during the current academic quarter, your library account typically activates automatically 1-2 business days after the quarter starts.

Your account stays active until two weeks into the second quarter in which you are not enrolled. For questions about your account expiration date, ask Library Account Services!

Loans and Access

Graduate and Undergraduate Students can borrow up to 300 items at a time.

  • Graduate Students can checkout for up to 12-weeks.
  • Undergraduate Students can checkout for up to 4-weeks.

Course Reserve checkout periods vary by item type with higher fines.

Off-Campus Access

Off-campus access is activated on the same schedule as your Library Account, and will expire during the second consecutive quarter (excluding Summer) in which you are not enrolled:

  • Last enrolled in Winter: expires Autumn
  • Last enrolled in Spring or Summer: expires Winter
  • Last enrolled Autumn: expires Spring

Library Card

Your Husky Card is all you need to check out items from any UW Library.

If you are not eligible for a Husky Card, contact Library Account Services to obtain a Borrowers Card!

For employed UW Faculty, Staff, and Visiting Scholars, your library account typically activates automatically 1-2 business days after your appointment in the UW Payroll system begins.

We want you to have access to our resources when you need them, so your account stays active until two weeks into the second quarter you are not employed. Official UW retirees and emeritus, your accounts will continue indefinitely. For questions about your account expiration date, our Library Account Services team is here to help.

Loans and Access

UW Faculty, Staff, and Visiting Scholars can borrow up to 300 items, most with a 12-week checkout period.

Course Reserve checkout periods vary by item type and with higher fines.

Additional Services

  • Alternative Article Access: If the UW Libraries does not have immediate access to articles, there are several alternatives you can explore to obtain a copy.
  • Department Delivery: Current UW Faculty and Staff with a UW campus box number can borrow and receive materials via campus mail.
  • Interlibrary Loan & Scanning Services: Obtain materials that the UW does not own; scanning services for articles and book chapters owned by the UW Libraries; scanning services for course materials.
  • Summit Visiting Patron Program: Current UW Faculty, Staff, and Visiting Scholars are eligible for borrowing privileges at all other Orbis Cascade Alliance Institutions.

UW Professional and Continuing Education (UWPCE) Students

Library Card

If you are not eligible for a Husky Card, contact Library Account Services to obtain a Borrower’s Card!

For UWPCE Students that enroll during the current academic quarter, your library account typically activates automatically 1-2 business days after the quarter starts.

Friends of the Library

Library Card

A Borrower’s Card is all you need to check out items from any UW Library.

With an annual gift of $100 or more, you, as a Friend of the Libraries, are eligible for borrowing privileges!

You’ll need to show proof of your donation (a letter from the UW Libraries, a gift receipt from the University of Washington Foundation, or an online donation email) and a valid photo ID.

Find your library account’s expiration date in your account details. Apply for a Borrower’s Card or contact Library Account Services for issuing/renewing your UW Libraries Borrower’s Card.

Loans and Access

Friends of the Libraries can borrow up to 30 items, most with a 4-week checkout period. Access to some campus Libraries are open only to current UW students, faculty, and staff. For specific libraries’ access policies, review our library location and hours.

Library Card

A Borrower’s Card is all you need to check out items from any UW Library.

Affiliated users are eligible for a free Borrower’s Card, while others may purchase a Borrower’s Card.

Find your library account’s expiration date in your account details. Apply for a Borrower’s Card or contact Library Account Services for issuing/renewing your UW Libraries Borrower’s Card.

Loans and Access

UW Libraries Borrowers can borrow up to 30 items, most with a 4-week checkout period. Access to some campus Libraries are open only to current UW students, faculty, and staff. For specific libraries’ access policies, review our library location and hours.

Library Card

As Summit Visiting Patrons, current students, staff, or faculty members from an Alliance institution can borrow materials from any other Alliance institution.

Find your library account’s expiration date in your account details. Apply for a Borrower’s Card or contact Library Account Services for issuing/renewing your UW Libraries Borrower’s Card.

Other Borrow and Request Information

Due Dates & Renewals

Renew most UW Libraries materials as often as you need. Due dates are subject to change if it is requested by another user, but you’re guaranteed a 14-day checkout period unless the item is needed immediately for course reserves.

Book Returns

Return most books and media to any UW Library or book return. For fragile or loose items, bring them directly to a circulation desk, if possible.

Interlibrary Loan & Scanning Services

Obtain materials that the UW does not own; scanning services for articles and book chapters owned by the UW Libraries; scanning services for course materials.

Requesting & Delivery

Request and receive materials, have them delivered, or get scans from UW Libraries.

Fines & Appeals
