The UW Libraries is seeking a highly-motivated and creative student assistant to support Libraries social media communications campus-wide. This position will report to the UW Libraries Director of Communications and will work collaboratively with the Director and other staff members across the Libraries to effectively maintain and enhance the Libraries social media presence and engagement with an emphasis in video production. This role will help to evaluate existing platforms and coordinate the launch of new platforms such as TikTok and LinkedIN. The ideal candidate will have some experience creating successful social media video campaigns beyond personal accounts/interest. Candidates should have a solid desire to broaden skills and experience in the field of communications but does not need to be working toward a communications-related major/degree.
Duties
- Co-manage UW Libraries social media accounts in partnership with the Director to:
- Work collaboratively with Libraries staff to develop a comprehensive social media strategy to increase social media engagement across multiple platforms
- Monitor and post regularly to all UW Libraries social media accounts
- Create video content to promote library programs and services
- Help plan and manage the potential launch of new social media accounts including TikTok and LinkedIn
- Assess and monitor social media analytics and provide data-driven recommendations on new tactics, approach and response to Libraries messaging
- Create and maintain partnership target lists and help to lead outreach to various student groups, academic centers and departments to amplify social media reach
- Assess various creative tools for use in digital content creation, and provide recommendations on capabilities and services
- Other duties assigned as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated video production experience, proficiency creating and editing short-form videos – including filming, use of basic animation and effects tools – portfolio required in application
- Familiar with identifying trends/sounds and using those to create engaging campaigns/ posts
- Experience using digital creative tools: Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut, YouTube, etc.
- Experience managing social media accounts and systems: Hootsuite (or equivalent), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok
- High comfort level working very independently with limited direction, taking creative initiative, solutions-oriented
- Strong time management skills, balancing competing priorities
- Ability to work with Libraries and other campus staff/students in a professional manner in a variety of tasks
- Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of your work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in social media management for a group, non-profit, or business
- Experience using UW Libraries services, programs, and tools.
Other Job Details
Candidates must be willing/able to work through summer quarter with reduced summer hours as mutually agreed upon with supervisor (if student requests).
