Duties
The successful Makerspace candidate will have a strong background in crafting and/or in using Makerspace technology to make artwork, crafts, or repair items. They will also enjoy showing people how to make things, how to repair items, and how to use new technology. The successful candidate will also have a strong commitment to equity and will understand that the
Makerspace is intentionally a place which lowers the bar to entry as a means of social justice. And finally, the successful candidate will enjoy making new projects with their down time and writing about how they made those projects on the Makerspace web site.
Technology that this student position supports in the new Makerspace includes:
- 3D printer
- Raspberry Pi kits
- A vinyl cutter
- A tool library which the Library will fund and make available to campus
- A Universal Laser Systems VLS2.3 laser cutter/engraver
- A Brother LB7000 Sewing and Embroidery Machine
- A poster printer
This position is a resource for peer-to-peer mentoring for all student users and will extend the longevity of the machines in the space by supporting preventative maintenance and instruction on proper use.
Specific duties:
- Training: you will be required to know how everything works in the
Makerspace and be confident enough to show others how to use the equipment. - Workshops: You will create workshops which match your preferred method or technology for making.
- Safety: Ensure that the space is safe for students and staff. Help develop and review safety policies.
- Control access to equipment: limit access to the equipment to authorized students only.
- Maintenance of equipment: all maker technology requires periodic maintenance.
- Trouble-shooting: basic and advanced tech support for students using the makerspace.
- Under the general supervision of the Head of Library Information Technology, assist and instruct Library patrons in the use of computer software and hardware. (For example: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, web editing , scanning, printing, and file transfer applications).
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A strong commitment to building an anti-racist, anti-oppression workplace.
- A proven history of crafting and making.
- Ability to learn new maker technology and teach others.
- Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to use 3D printers, design 3D models, and/or an interest in sewing, crochet, knitting, using the laser cutter, and creating original pieces of art or other makerspace technology.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to resolve issues and provide support.

Located in the Snoqualmie building, adjacent to the CE&I and the Library IT help desk, the Makerspace is a drop-in facility for students to explore and use maker technology and build community with like-minded makers.
