The Position

Job Title:  User Experience (UX) and Web Assistant
Location/Department: Seattle Campus
Rate: $21.59
Hours: 12-19.5 hours/week during the academic year;
30-40 hours/week during Summer 2025 
Monday to Friday; flexible schedule, hybrid work may be available (must be located in the US).

Duties

This position provides support for the Libraries’ website, online resources, and user experience needs. Specific duties may include:

  • Working with Libraries staff and other university staff to determine the appropriate methods for evaluation of the Libraries’ websites and services.
  • Conducting user research and producing design artifacts (e.g., personas, journey maps) to help other staff understand user needs.
  • Co-designing with library patrons to receive input and ultimately improve services.
  • Planning, scheduling, and implementing UX evaluation sessions, including designing test scenarios.
  • Writing reports/presenting evaluation findings and making design recommendations.
  • Evaluating online resources for accessibility.
  • Updating Libraries website content.
  • Training others how to update website content.
  • Evaluating features and systems releases for library resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Some training will be provided.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to manage projects independently.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and try new approaches to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of and some experience in the user-centered design/research process and usability methods like heuristic evaluation, focus groups, and contextual inquiry.
  • Experience with planning and conducting user testing.
  • Experience with designing graphics and mockups.
  • Experience using design tools (like Figma).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with WordPress or other content management systems.
  • Experience with application of design systems
  • Experience with information architecture
  • Experience with creating wireframes, prototypes and web pages
  • Experience with UX quantitative and/or qualitative research
  • Knowledge of evaluating systems features and releases
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and WCAG 2.1 guidelines and/or experience with accessibility testing
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies including HTML, CSS and Javascript

Other Job Details

Start in June 2025 and be able to work for at least the next 3 consecutive quarters. Must be available to work 30-40 hours/week, Summer 2025 to help with the new website launch (which means not enrolled during the summer quarter).
