Overview
Cataloging and Metadata Services (CAMS) provides enhanced copy and original cataloging of materials for all three University campuses, as well as Cascadia College. CAMS comprises three units: International Studies, Monographic Cataloging, and Serials Cataloging. UW Libraries uses OCLC’s cataloging and metadata services, along with a consortial implementation of the Alma library management system and the Primo discovery service through the Orbis Cascade Alliance. The student assistant reports to the E-Resources Metadata Librarian, who reports directly to the Director of CAMS. The work location is flexible after completing initial training, with a minimum requirement of 5 hours on site. Work hours are also flexible, provided the student maintains at least 10 hours per week.
Duties
- Perform bibliographic searches for materials in the cataloging improvement workflow.
- Perform quick cataloging of materials.
- Relink electronic portfolios from print records to electronic records.
- Compile a list of records for original cataloging.
- Handle withdrawals, reinstatement, and Marking Room issues.
- Provide assistance with special cataloging projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to maintaining the quality of bibliographic records.
- Ability to work independently and follow procedures.
- Clear communication skills with supervisors.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of any of the following: MARC21, OCLC Connexion, Alma
