Collections Budget Update 5/24

May 24, 2021

As part of faculty governance, the Faculty Council on University Libraries is responsible for all matters of policy relating to libraries such as, but not limited to, collection development; space needs; and budgetary requirements. The FCUL meets with representatives of the Libraries six times an academic year, and the Libraries provides regular updates to FCUL and invites feedback on issues affecting the Libraries as well as Libraries plans and initiatives. For the 2020-2021 academic year, collections have been at the forefront of discussion. At the FCUL meeting on May 12, 2021 the Libraries reflected on the impact on collections from the pandemic, current fiscal landscape, and potential opportunities for the coming year. The Libraries submitted two requests to the Provost’s Reinvestment Fund -- to maintain the Libraries’ serial purchasing power and to support faculty Open Access publishing. To express their support, the FCUL is sending a letter of support to the Faculty Senate Committee on Planning and Budgeting.

If you have specific questions about this process, we encourage you to reach out to FCUL voting faculty.
