Title

Title of the text. Transcribe the title of the text (technical report, etc.) from the title page, or if there is no title page, from the cover. Omit initial articles (“the,” “a,” “an”). For annual reports, add the year of the report if it is not already in the title. For multi-volume works, add the volume numbering at the end of the title, e.g. “Volume 2.” If there is no title, construct one–a brief descriptive phrase based on the content of the document. Use the Additional Title field for other titles.

Use OCLC tag 245, subfield a and b, without subfield delimiters.

The name of the author of the text or the corporate body responsible for the content. Input personal names in the form “lastname, firstname” or the corporate body name in direct order. Use the LC Authority File for the form of name, if available. Multiple names are okay; separate them with <br>. If the author is determined from a resource other than the item, create a Note. Enter editors in the Contributor field. If there is no author, leave the field blank.

Use OCLC tag 1XX, without subfield delimiters. If the title page indicates multiple authorship, add the corresponding names from tag 7XX as well.

Edition

The edition of a document. Abbreviate the number, e.g. 2nd, 3rd, etc. Abbreviate the word edition as ed.

Reflects the Date field. Use a format of single year(s). If the date is a single year, it is the same in both the Date and the Dates fields. If the date in the Date field is a “circa” date (e.g., ca. 1895) or a date range (e.g., 1908-1945), the Dates field contains an expanded version listing each year so that searching will find dates covered by the date range. Five years on either side is the preferred form for circa dates.
