Find Newspapers & Microforms

From Local to International

Find many primary sources including books, government publications, newspapers, popular magazines, scholarly journals, organizations’ records, and more, in the Microforms & Newspapers Collection.

Microforms contain reproductions of these materials to preserve them because paper can decay over time. There are 3 formats of microforms: microfilm (on reels), microfiche (sheets), and microcards (opaque cards).

Find Newspapers

The UW Libraries has an extensive collection of news sources published in the United States and around the world. Current and historic news may be online, in paper, and on microfilm. Most of the paper and microfilmed newspapers are held in the Government Publications, Maps, Microforms & Newspapers (GMMN) unit

UW Libraries Search includes most, but not all, of the newspapers in the collection. Try using terms from the Newspaper Genre List. Additional tools and indexes may be needed for research.

New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and More

UW Libraries has licensed access to several news websites including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, E & E News Publications, Economist, Financial Times, and more. To access, use the Today tab on the E-Newspapers page.
