OSC Presentation Space
The Open Scholarship Commons (OSC) has a presentation space that is intended for events and workshops that support our mission of advancing open, public, and emerging forms of scholarship by providing interdisciplinary opportunities to build skills necessary to co-create, share, translate, and make the impact of research visible to the world.
Features
- Movable furniture that seats up to 24 people with tables OR up to 30 without tables
- Speaker lectern with HDMI laptop hook-up
- Large screen monitor, microphone/speakers, webcam, and hybrid capabilities for including online participants
- Laptop cart with 25 laptops for use in conjunction with the space (request when you reserve the space).

Reservation Policies
- We are happy to accommodate course requests teaching skills in open, public, and emerging forms of scholarship for 1-3 workshops in our space each quarter. Open Scholarship Commons policies do not allow for quarter-long course reservations of our presentation space.
- Space must be reserved weekdays between 9am-4pm and is subject to availability based on staffing schedules.
- Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Reservations are limited to current UW students, faculty, or staff in accordance with our events criteria. We cannot accommodate staff meetings or club meetings that are non-academic in focus.
- The OSC allows covered beverages only. (Let us know if your event is interested in catering when you reserve the space.)
- OSC staff will:
- help you set up the necessary equipment for your in-person or hybrid event.
- ensure that our audiovisual equipment is connecting properly for presentation to your online and in person participants.
- OSC staff will NOT:
- create/manage online meeting links.
- offer chat monitoring services for your hybrid meeting.
- record or manage recordings of your event

Events and Workshop Criteria
The Open Scholarship Commons (OSC) is a space that welcomes all UW community members and, where possible, the global community, to join in events, workshops, and class workshops celebrating new knowledge creation and dissemination.
- New knowledge creation events include those that re-envision and reimagine scholarly production and teaching processes to include more open and inclusive ways of working and storytelling.
- Knowledge dissemination events include those focused on the process, skills, and tools to move scholarship outside of the walls of the University and into the hands of the community.
Examples of new knowledge creation and dissemination may include:
- Community engaged scholarship, public scholarship, and citizen science events and workshops
- Data visualization
- Digital publishing workshops
- Going Public yearly symposiums
- Open access
- Open data
- Open education resources
- Privacy
- Research ImpactStorytelling (digital/data)
- Text mining
