Nuts and Bolts of Scholarly Publishing
Whether it’s your first time publishing or you’re a seasoned author, navigating the scholarly publishing landscape can be difficult. While we cannot provide legal or career advice, our Nuts and Bolts of Scholarly Publishing guide discusses issues such as:
- Knowing your rights as an author
- Finding an appropriate publisher
- Evaluating journals for fit, impact and quality
- Understanding your publishing contract
Online Publishing Platforms
Want to share your work openly? We provide tools and support for sharing your work with the wider public. Whether it’s data, preprints, digital projects, journals, or open educational resources, we can help get your work out into the world.
Funding Your Publication
While the Libraries does not fund individual publications, we have negotiated discounts or outright waivers for UW authors with a number of scholarly publishers.
Theses and Dissertations
UW Libraries partners with the Graduate School to support students submitting their theses and dissertations to UW’s online Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) program. We can help with questions such as:
- Publishing your ETD – or using a publication in an ETD
- Formatting your work
- Using images in theses and dissertations
- Determining what the appropriate access level should be before your ETD is made available openly in ResearchWorks and to subscribers of ProQuest Dissertations
