Suzzallo Library Carrels
These carrels are in the Suzzallo Library in a publicly-accessible space. Carrel assignments are available to current University of Washington students, staff, faculty, and visiting scholars. Non-affiliated users are not eligible. Non-affiliated users include alumni, off-campus borrowers, and anyone else not currently attending the University of Washington or employed at the University of Washington. Carrels are assigned on a quarterly basis and may be renewed at the end of each quarter until the carrel is no longer needed. Patrons registered for spring quarter may retain their carrel through summer quarter, but must renew for autumn quarter or return the carrel card by the end of summer quarter.
Scholar Study Rooms
This secured, shared space located in the Allen Library offers assigned bookshelves and storage lockers. Scholar Study Room assignments are available to PhD Candidates who have completed their general exams, current Visiting Scholars and current or retired UW Faculty. Students wishing to use the room must be registered for the current quarter or officially on leave with the Graduate School. Space is issued on a quarterly basis with the option to renew each quarter for a maximum of five years.
Faculty Study Rooms
These study rooms are individually assigned rooms in the Suzzallo Library. Faculty study room assignments are available to current University of Washington faculty who are actively working on research. Priority is given to tenured and tenure-track faculty. Study rooms are assigned on an annual basis. Faculty who plan to be on leave for one quarter or more and will not be using their study room may not keep the space during this time; however, reassignment will be made on a priority basis upon their return if their research need continues. Occupants are contacted by Library Account Services prior to their expiration date to renew or terminate their study room assignment.
