August 31 Deadline for Wiley Gold OA Journals: fee reduction FAQs

For authors who are planning to publish in a Wiley journal, manuscripts for Wiley fully Open Access (gold) journals must be submitted by Aug. 31, 2026 to avoid article processing charges(APCs). After that deadline, authors will be required to pay APCs. Wiley hybrid journals have a separate deadline; authors must sign their publication agreements by Dec. 31, 2027 to avoid APCs. After that deadline, authors will be required to pay their own APCs. 

Always check UW Libraries APC Support page first—before submitting to any publication—to ensure you have the most current information on Wiley journals and all UW publishing agreements.

Important Tips and Reminders:

How do I know if my journal is OA or hybrid? 

  • Search for your journal title on these lists to determine which deadline applies for your submission:
    • Wiley fully Open Access (gold) journals – Click on the green button at the upper right that says “view journals” to see a list of titles.
    • Wiley hybrid journals – For a list of titles, click on the blue button “Hybrid OA price list” at the lower right. But don’t worry, you will not have to pay the fees listed.

Do these APC deadlines apply to other journals? 

What should I do to ensure my article falls under the agreement and I will not have to pay APCs?

  • The corresponding author must be affiliated with UW.
  • The corresponding author should use a UW email address when submitting the article to avoid delays in processing. 
  • The article must be submitted within the deadlines above.

Was this deadline announced previously?

Yes. The initial announcement went out to all UW central communication channels and partners in April 2026.
