A Message From the Dean

As we begin the 2026–2027 academic year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all students, faculty, and staff across the University of Washington. Each new year brings fresh opportunities for discovery, creativity and connection, and UW Libraries is proud to be your partner in every stage of that journey.
At the heart of our mission is a deep commitment to supporting teaching, learning and research. Whether you are designing a new course, exploring emerging pedagogical approaches, or seeking ways to engage students more meaningfully, our librarians and staff are ready to collaborate with you. From information literacy instruction to online learning tools and course‑integrated support, we are here to help you build learning experiences that are rigorous, inclusive and inspiring.
As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Suzzallo Library this academic year, I encourage the community to enjoy the exhibits, activities and collections that highlight the history and importance of this iconic campus institution. In addition to the University Archives, the Libraries’ vast Special Collections — rare books, manuscripts, archives, oral histories and more — inspire original research across disciplines through examination of historical, cultural and scientific materials from our region, and around the world. We invite you to explore all of our collections and research services to discover how they can enrich your teaching, scholarship and creative work.
UW Libraries also continues to expand publishing support services, helping scholars navigate an evolving and challenging academic publishing landscape. Whether you are preparing a journal article, researching federal requirements or open access policies, our staff can assist with a range of publishing tools and resources including copyright, data management, open publishing platforms, support for article processing charges and other topics. We are committed to ensuring that UW scholarship is visible, accessible and impactful.
As we look ahead, I am inspired by the energy and creativity of our community.
