Duties

  • The student in this position provides support for core library assessment projects and data visualization work.
  • Provides support for qualitative and quantitative assessment projects across the UW Libraries system. This work may include space assessment, qualitative observation, user interviews and surveys, data collection, note taking/data entry, meeting facilitation, and conducting environmental scans/literature reviews.
  • Under the direction of the Assessment and Data Visualization librarians, support Libraries data work for staff and users including developing training materials and documentation, exploratory data analysis and communication of Libraries data.
  • Under the direction of the Assessment Librarian, completes or contributes to other projects or Libraries committees and teams as assigned. Guided by the student’s interests and departmental needs, this position may provide the opportunity to explore professional development opportunities and to facilitate student-led projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Interest in library assessment methods (including qualitative, quantitative, and participatory) as well as data analysis and visualization;
  • Willingness to learn new methods, tools, and approaches;
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills within a team and with users and project stakeholders;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, develop personal goals, and work independently and collaboratively;
  • Commitment to contributing to a team that values critical approaches to assessment and data, reflective practice, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Desired Qualifications

  • Interest or experience with leadership, project management and/or collaborating with other students;
  • Enrollment in the MLIS program at the UW Information School.

Assessment staff collaborate with colleagues throughout the Libraries on projects to support the University’s mission.
