Recording Studio

The Open Scholarship Commons (OSC) Recording Studio is a space designed for creativity and collaboration for audio-visual projects that support our mission of advancing open, public, and emerging forms of scholarship by providing interdisciplinary opportunities to build skills necessary to co-create, share, translate, and make the impact of research visible to the world.

Location

The Recording Studio is located near the Open Scholarship Commons on the first floor of the Suzzallo Library, in the space marked as room 159 on the map below. When entering from Red Square, go straight through the main lobby past the Starbucks, and turn left when you see the school supplies vending machines. You will pass desks and other student working areas, and then come upon the folio stacks. Turn left, and it will be the first door on the left, marked with a sign saying “Recording Studio.”

 Uses

Both academic and personal projects are welcome! While the Recording Studio was designed with podcasting in mind, the OSC does not generally restrict what types of projects can be done in the space, as long as the project does not interfere with existing policies, including but not limited to the following:

  • Absolutely no food/drink (except water in fully resealable containers, like a water bottle – no drink tumblers with straws)
  • No loud instruments that can carry outside the room (space is sound treated, but not soundproof)
  • No amplification (e.g., speakers, guitar amps)

Getting Started

The best way to get started is to meet with a member of our team to have a tour of the studio and an introduction to using the equipment. This usually takes about an hour or less.

When you are ready for your first full recording session, we will do our best to schedule you at a time that works for you and also allows for one of our staff members to be on hand in case you require any assistance.

Once you feel confident in using the technology provided, you can make reservations to use the studio any time during our operating hours (9am-5pm, Mon-Fri, excluding holidays and other days the library is closed) without one of us present.
