Duties
Social media production and engagement (80%)
○ Manage multiple social media and content production workflows, ensuring alignment UW Libraries branding as well as UW communication guidelines and best practices
○ Create all graphics, video content for socials, inclusive of routine news as well as special campaigns designed to increase student engagement and awareness
○ Develop and maintain social media guidelines and best practices
○ Maintain a thorough understanding of social media trends relevant to higher education
○ Measure and analyze post-performance data to inform future marketing campaigns and increase engagement. Regularly gather and analyze key performance metrics, communicating results and actionable insights to leadership.
Web and other Content Management (10%)
○ Facilitate regular, weekly updates to Libraries web pages – create graphics, update home page, news, events
○ Create monthly advertising flyers
○ Work to streamline processes for organization of digital asset management in YouTube and Canva, other platforms
○ Create new design templates for Library signage / events
Writing and Outreach (10%)
○ Assist with tabling events and campus outreach to promote library events/services/general awareness
○ Co-facilitate Libraries student communications advisory group (launch TBD)
Required Qualifications
- A creative portfolio showcasing skills in video productions, social media campaign development and engagement, graphic design, writing skills
- Candidates must be willing/able to work through summer quarter with reduced summer hours as mutually agreed upon with supervisor (if requested)
- High comfort level working very independently with limited direction, taking creative initiative, problem-solving, etc.
- Strong video production skills and experience building a social media presence and increasing engagement for a group, business or non-profit, with samples of successful campaigns/engagement metrics in their submitted portfolio
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent graphic design skills
- Proficient with web content management systems- basic HTML editing, WordPress, Drupal or similar CMS tools
- Intermediate skill level working with digital creative tools: Canva, Adobe products, etc.
- Strong time management skills, balancing competing priorities
- Ability to work with Libraries and other campus staff/students in a professional manner in a variety of tasks
- Ability to ask for help and accept supervision and evaluation of your work.

Other Job Details
The UW Libraries is seeking a highly motivated and creative student assistant to support Libraries’ student and community-focused communications efforts. This position will report to the UW Libraries Director of Communications and will work collaboratively with the Director and other staff members across the Libraries to enhance marketing efforts, primarily via the Libraries social media channels. Ideal candidates must be comfortable working independently and proactively without highly prescriptive instruction or direction. This position is very flexible in terms of specific work hours and location — students may choose to work from a desk in the administration office (on the 4th floor of Suzzallo Library), or work remotely, with specific schedules to be mutually agreed on upon hiring. The ideal candidate will have a desire to broaden skills and experience in the field of communications, but does not need to be working toward a communications-related major/degree to be eligible.
