Services for UW in the High School

Get started

  • UW in the High School. UWHS is a program administered by Continuum College in which high school students can register to earn University of Washington course credit in their own classrooms. Once a student is enrolled for UW credit in a UWHS course, they will be able to borrow materials from UW Libraries. If a student is not registered for UW credit, they will not be able to access the UW Libraries materials.
  • Husky Card. Husky Cards also serve as a library card, and are available to registered UWHS students and instructors. To obtain a Husky Card and to get started borrowing materials, visit the Husky Card Services website.
  • UW Net IDs. A UW NetID provides online access to the UW Library system. For more information about obtaining a UW NetID if you are a UWHS student, visit the After You Register page. For UWHS instructors, visit About UW NetIDs.
  • Library visits. UWHS instructors are welcome to bring students to visit the UW Libraries. Visit the Library Tours and Workshops for more information on requesting a tour or class session.

Borrow library materials

  • Borrowing privileges. UWHS instructors and registered students can borrow physical materials from the UW Libraries using their Husky Card. Access to the library system is valid for the duration of the UW course. For more details on  borrowing privileges, visit Borrowing Information for UW PCE Students or Borrowing Information for Faculty. For questions about your library account, visit Library Account Services.
  • Placing a hold. Place a hold on materials already checked out or select a location for pick up of materials held by the UW Libraries through UW Libraries Search.
  • Beyond the collection. UW Libraries purchases materials according to its collection development guiding principles. UWHS instructors who seek materials not currently reflected by the UW Libraries collection are encouraged to reach out to their local public libraries or school libraries where applicable.

Access online resources

  • Online access. Registered UWHS students and instructors can access thousands of online resources, including full-text journals, articles, and more with a UW NetID and password.
  • Research guides. UWHS students and instructors can discover recommended resources and research databases for a particular subject area by browsing the Libraries Research Guides.
  • Off-campus access. UWHS students and instructors can also utilize library resources from home by Connecting from Off-Campus.
