UW Libraries Operations Updates

UW Bothell and UW Tacoma Libraries may have different operations updates.
Check campus library websites for the most accurate information.

Please note:  Libraries hours are subject to change pending the evolving public health status, new protocols and/or staff availability. All updates will be posted here as soon as confirmed.

ALERT: Foster Business Library will be closing one hour early at 9:00 PM starting Tuesday, 11/22.

End of fall quarter/finals

  • Modified hours for Odegaard Library during the end of autumn quarter and finals:
    • Monday, 12/5 – Friday, 12/9:  8am-12am (midnight)
    • Saturday, 12/10 and Sunday, 12/11: 10am-12am (midnight)
    • Monday, 12/12 – Thursday, 12/15: 8am-12am (midnight)
    • Last Day of finals: Friday, December 16: 8am-6pm

WINTER BREAK

December 17, 2022 - January 2, 2023

Know Before You Go:

The following is a summary of winter break location hours; please note that specific services within each location may vary from the building's hours. See all hours/services.

  • All locations will be closed on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and UW holidays 12/26/22 and 1/2/23
  • Most specialized libraries will be closed (Foster Business, Art, Drama, Built Environments, etc.), with the exception of Health Sciences, Engineering and Music Libraries (see below)
  • Special Collections: virtual reading room appointments only during Week 1 (see below)
  • Tateuchi East Asia Library remains closed for construction

“WEEK 1”: Monday, December 19th- Friday, 23rd

  • Suzzallo and Allen, Odegaard, and Engineering Libraries – open 9am-5pm; see  also hours for specific services (e.g. Research Help)
  • Special Collections: virtual reading room appointments available  1pm-5pm
  • Health Sciences Library– open 9am-6pm;
  • Music Library – open 1pm -5pm;
  • All other locations: closed

“WEEK 2”: Tuesday, Dec 27-Friday, Dec 30th

  • Suzzallo and Allen, Odegaard, and Engineering – open 1pm--5pm; see  also hours for specific services (e.g. Research Help)
  • Special Collections: closed
  • Health Sciences Library– open 9am-6pm
  • All other locations: closed

ALERTS

  • Starting 11/21, all UW students will be required to use two-factor authentication (2FA) to log in to UW resources, including Library resources.
    • If you have not set 2FA, you may not be able to register. And you may not be able to access UW online systems, such as Canvas, your library account and off campus access to library resources. Please “lock down your login” today with the Duo Mobile app for 2FA.
    • The UW requires two-factor authentication (2FA) for your UW NetID account to protect both your and the University’s information. With 2FA, you sign in first with your UW NetID and password, then use a 2FA device (such as your smartphone) to confirm your identity.
  • Tateuchi East Asia Library is closed for ongoing construction/renovation through spring break 2023. See the Closure Update for more information, including how to access library materials.

Reminders/Resources

Access for Graduating Students and Non-UW Affiliates (no current Husky Card)

  • Graduating students retain off-campus access to online library collections and databases using Husky OnNet or the off-campus proxy until the second consecutive quarter (excluding Summer) in which you are not enrolled.
  • Users with valid UW Libraries borrowing card/privileges: If you do not have a Husky Card, you can request books from any UW Library with your UW NetID for pick-up at UW Libraries open to the public.

    UW Libraries is committed to keeping our spaces safe for our entire UW community. Everyone who visits the UW Libraries also plays a role in helping to keep UW Libraries safe by protecting each other.

  • Masks are recommended at this time, but not required.
  • Masks are available for all staff and users at all public service desks and other locations across campus.
  • Check your risk- Per UW health and safety protocols: stay home if you have any sign of illness.
  • Cleaning supplies: All service desks have alcohol wipes specifically for cleaning computer keyboards and hand sanitizer available to all, with additional hand sanitizing stations at entry/exit points.
